Blast from the Past

Hey all!

Looking at the Member's list it appears we still have some lurkers that come and visit every once in a while; so I figured I'd make a post, say hello and check in. I hope you're all doing well in these trying times. I just wanted to say I hope everyone is staying safe and doing well.

It's still surprising to me that it's been around 10 years since the "glory" days of BlenderNewbies. Seems like we were having speed modeling contests just yesterday...

Anywho, anyone that feels like chatting or reminiscing of old times; feel free to reply here or you can always hit me up on Steam or other platforms (Yodaman921, duh; and there's a BlenderNewbies Steam group for those that didn't know). It doesn't have to be Blender related, heck I don't use it as much as I used to. I know a lot can change in 10 years.... (I myself graduated college, got married, switched the State I was living in multiple times, etc)... but still, this community was always one of the friendliest ones around.

I check in on occasion, but have wondered. Where did everyone go? Did this site get replaced?

As far as I'm aware, the site was never replaced. I think for most of us, life happened. We got busy and had to step away from Blender and by extension this forum.

Back in the day it was a special environment with sites such as BlenderNewbies and Nystic existing, primarily due to the owners of those forums having tutorials that pointed back to the forum. However, in both of those cases, the forums died due to the owners of them no longer creating tutorials or being around to maintain the forums. We created this forum simply as a safe haven to regroup after the other forums fell (without having to go over to the BlenderArtists forum).

But, this forum is off the map. No tutorials or sites point here. It was simply those of us that regrouped. So as individuals moved on with their hobbies or had other things come up, we lost activity, but never gained anyone new. Until finally we are where we are now. We go 2+ years between people posting.

I don't think things will ever quite be how they were back in the day. I think those days are long past. Especially with sites like Reddit now where I feel like a lot of people probably congregate. I will say, I always hope everyone is doing well and enjoying life. I always though this was a great community of folks.

I still check every now and then just to see if there is any movement. I have not joined any other forums since but will if I cant find the answer in a search. There is a lot more information available in a search now days.
