Re: kernons health
I have Kernon's address and phone number. My wife and I were talking about seeing if the police can do a health and welfare check to his house just to see if he's okay--however we decided not to go through with it because if he is well the thought of me abusing his address that way might infuriate him.
I did a check of the obituary pages did not turn up any results.

I hope he's alright. I came across this the other day though:

not too good.

Well, I was thinking today, if he can't use e-mail at the moment, then why not try physical mail, if you really have his address? That's certainly not an abuse of anything. If I was sick and didn't have access to a computer, I would be really glad if someone who's far away sent me a letter.BnBGobo99 wrote:I have Kernon's address and phone number. that's an excellent idea. even if he's really sick and/or incapacitated, hopefully he was someone checking his physical mail for bills and such, even if no one is checking his email accounts.
Get well chain letter
I'll buy a card (or ask the wife to make one since making cards is the way she .blends), write a get well message and then pass it along to another person who wants to also sign it. Once everybody who wants signs it I'll send Kernon's address to the person who has it last to sent it to Kernon.
If anybody wants to participate just send me your address and I'll mail it over (with a pass-along address list to who's next).

That would be really nice, but think of how many BN members there are outside the USA. There are a couple of us in different parts of Europe, to say the least. Such an operation might take quite the time and we'll definetly need some kind of better organisation than simply "pass it along to another person who wants to also sign it".

Re: kernons health
I don't see Kernon coming back online any time soon, so I don't think there is too much of a rush. We are a pretty close-nit bunch here, so "pass along" should work fine--no need to overly complicate anything. But we're open for other suggestions... we can throw some ideas around and come up with a plan.
Re: kernons health
maybe we could all make a signature in blender, not too big, with our well-wishes, that one person could print out and mail in a card?
Good Idea
I was going to suggest those of outside the US scan our signature and message and email to whoever is nominated to send the card. But I like Z's idea much better. Sending a message through Blender.
Appropriate.
I definitely want to be included on the card however we decide to do it.

Yeah, passin' down a blend file through the 'net, rather than a card throughout the globe, sounds better. I'm down to Z's idea.

Re: kernons health
Perhaps the Europeans get printed signatures, 'Locals' can hand-sign. Because realistically speaking, I could get an envelope from Wyoming to... the Carolinas, or Merryland in less than a week. I think that a hand-signed card would be more special for the recipient. Have the international signatures would be awesome, but may be a bit harder to achieve.
I'm certainly up for this! If you get a card, send it my way Mike!

Kernon's Code Word = Super K
All,
The wife agreed to make a card, which I'll try to get sent soon. I'll let y'all know when it's ready to be sent out (in a few days).
How about this:
So far I got RR and XRay on the mailing list. If anybody else wants to join in, please PM me your name and address.
For our mighty European, fantastic South American, and awesome Pacific (Continental) Islander friends, if you want to send me a render of your message and I'll print them out and include them in the envelope. This would mean after everybody has had a chance to sign off on the card, it will need to be mailed back to Maryland where I can then mail it to "Super K" (who is about 3 hours away--so he should receive it two days later).

Re: kernons health
Al right, I think I have a nice idea for a render and I'll sent it to ya when I get it done. That would be probably sometime the next week, maybe at the weekend. Hope that's not too late.

Re: kernons health
All,
Wife finished the card today, so I'll sign off on it and send it to Big Z tomorrow morning (he's the closest, so it'll get to him faster). I'll include the next addresses with the card--unless there are concerns about doing that, then I'll just PM the next address to the current card holder. If anybody else wants in, please PM me your address and I'll add it to the list. I have zyzzy, XRay, RR so far. It would be nice to have others in North America join in on the physical signing, if you can.

Re: kernons health
If it's possible, I'd also like to sign the card
As you said, it may be too troublesome to send it all the way to Chile and the rest of the world, but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
I just sent my address to Mike just in case.

Render
I'll get my render across to you sometime this weekend. Cheers for doing this.

Re: kernons health
Sorry for the delay guys, I've been both busy and negligent. The wife made the card days and days ago and it's been waiting for my message and mail out.
Z, I'll send it out tomorrow or Tuesday along with the addresses I've received so far. The card fits in a special card-sized envelope, but will also fit in a regular envelope. Once it comes back I'll insert the European messages and mail it to Kernon in the special card envelope.

Re: kernons health
The bird is in the coop.... er, the card is in the mail. Please keep the addresses close to you and don't disclose them to others, especially Kernon's.
Once we send the card to Kernon and don't hear from him for a couple of weeks I'll give him a call. If he doesn't reply to the card, I know something is seriously wrong--I've chatted/emailed with Kernon for a fair amount of time and I feel like I have a good sense of how he is--so, to me, not replying to the card signals he is unable to rather than not wanting to.

Re: kernons health
thats a great idea..i'd want to send some greets and wishes too...got a scanner and stuff so that shouldnt be a problem..i can live wth a printed or even digital message...as long as theres a chance that kernon can receive it!

So, I just stopped by BlenderNewbies to bump the BlenderWorld thread... it was on page 12 because a new bot has racked up 491 posts so far.
