My "Wire Tree"

Post  Radialronnie on Fri Dec 28, 2012 9:11 pm

Some on the IRC might remember me mentioning the Christmas project I've been working on since late November or so.
I finished it shortly before Christmas, and took some photos so you can picture what's going on.

The rock is a native find. According to two geologists I spoke to, the protrusion is probably a fossilized branch that stuck out of what once was mud.

The little doodads hanging on the tree.

It's pretty simple to make, but it takes time.
This is the first one I've made in some 15 years, and since it went relatively well, I plan on making more as I find time.

At the craft shop, I saw some washed-glass beads which I plan on putting on medium-dark grey wire and creating either a small cluster of trees like this;

or a single shape like this; http://aqu52.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/bonsai-maple.jpg

Fun fact. This is 150 feet of bronzed wire. 24 gauge.
It stands about 8-10 inches tall.

Thanks! It certainly is fun to do. Even though I did a mini prototype of with these materials before starting the big version, I learned a lot while doing it, so the next ones will be even nicer!

This looks really great! The arrangement, texture and color of the items on the branches lend themselves really well to the wire and rock. Fantastic work. Very Happy

That is excellent! Well worth the effort you obviously put in.

Dare you to try modelling it in Blender Smile
