Playing With Curves
Had some time to kill the other night so had a go at some Bspline modelling

Rather than copy a logo that doesn't mean anything to me I traced teh logo for my archery club instead. Came out quite well, not bad for a couple of hours work. Nice tutorial that.

Re: Playing With Curves
Cool stuff! I bet you could make a cool lapel or badge using this sort of technique.

Thanks.
That's an idea. Send it to a 3D printer and instant badges

If you're serious about the idea, check these guys out. They've got really solid work; [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Hmmm, interesting. So is it possible to use this techinique to model something cooler like a 5th gen Camaro, or something?
I mean, 3Ds max guys have been using non-polygonal modeling to make nice stuff since the dawn of time, I believe.

Re: Playing With Curves
Thanks for the link Radialronnie, I'll have a look at that.
Dobi, not sure if you could use it for anything as complicated as a car. When I converted this one to a mesh it produced the most ghastly, ugly topology I've ever seen.
Maybe if you were prepared to retopolgise it you could use it. But I'm not sure if it would be any quicker that way.

Dobi, have you had a go with NURBS? I began work on a concept vehicle some time back using MAYA at the time. It was fun and the surfaces looked great... I'm guessing most people today doing that sort of thing would be using some sort of CAD? Anyway, it might be worth a look.

@Xraygunner: I was talking about doing that with Blender. I know what Autodesk guys are doing and I was wondering if Blender has it's own equivalent of that.
@Strangebloke: I can imagine. Polygonal modeling is awesome and I wouldn't stop using it no matter what. Still, I would love it if Blender had NURBS system as good as in Autodesk software.

Re: Playing With Curves
Imagine no more. This is the appalling sight I was faced with after turning a curve model into a mesh.

I guess that's why they only get used for logos. It seems to go out of it's way to create triangles! Odd considering we've now got Bmesh.
Ah well. It'll do for an image.
