Bunny's Scraps Empty Fracture Test - Terracotta Statue

Using Richard van der Oost's Blender Cookie tutorials "Breaking Objects with the Cell Fracture Add-on", I used a Stanford scan of a Terracotta statue and a modified "Organic Apple" Cycles material from the Cycles material library (http://www.blendswap.com/blends/materials/material-library-cycles-beta/)

This rendering has some flaws: the pieces come to an unnatural stop, and of course the head doesn't fall down, but the test served its purpose. albino

Music is by the Korean band "The Wonder Girls".

Very nice! The little flaws are easily fixable I'm sure and don't detract from the effect. I would love to see some slow motion footage of an object being broken by an external force or something. Perhaps a bullet to a clay container.

Do you know if you can control the size of the broken bits? I'm thinking that in the case of a bullet, material near the impact would almost pulverize while the rest would break into larger chunks.

Ha ha. Nice. The flying head makes it more entertaining for some reason Smile

Ronnie, you want bullets and things smashing in slow motion? Old video using something called the Phymec Tools which I believe was rewritten to turn into the cell shatter plug in for BLender.

Great fun to watch, I could stare at those slow motion shots for ages, and have in fact Smile

Looking at the videos of the CG tutorial it does look like you can control the size of the pieces. I think I'll have to have a look at that tutorial for some relief from the vehicle modelling one I've been wading through for weeks.

Ah, the good ol' Vehicle Modeling Series... I've been meaning to go through that one for the past year---may 2013 being modeling tutorial success to both of us!

RR, funny thing about your question, the video tutorial goes through that exact process--firing a bullet through an object and modifying the size of the pieces. He used a grease pencil to make the shards radial out from the impact point, pretty nifty use of the grease pencil feature.

He does indeed use the grease pencil to control the shard sizes. Works too.

Nice little diversion for an hour and a half. Long way from perfect, the shards shatter a couple of frames before the bullet actually hits them (not settling because of gravity I mean they rocket out of the back of the cube and the bullet is still visible on the left hand side). I couldn't get the activator cube to work and the colour scheme is ghastly (sorry).

But still good fun.

As for the vehicle modelling tutorial, I wouldn't wait too much longer if you're going to try it. It's quite old now and some of blenders new features make it tricky to follow some of his procedures. I keep getting Ngons which weren't available for him. However I'm halfway through and learnt a hell of a lot towards modelling that Spitfire later. Here's progress to date.

Bunny's Scraps Empty Evolution of an Opening Logo - Studio Greenleaf

This is a montage of the various versions of my logo from 2009 until now.

Studio Greenleaf is the name of the overall organization, with Orange House as the animation division. This is not a real organization yet, but one day perhaps.

The difference between the March 2011 and current versions is minor updates to both the graphic and font resolution as well as font spacing.

Music is from Downton Abbey by the Chamber Orchestra of London.

Cool stuff! The greenleaf logo has really become something polished over time. If you don't mind a random suggestion, I'd like to see if having some more movement on the nebula-like bit. I've seen something similar done where the graphic is split into layers each with transparency, and then the sprites/billboards are animated differently. For instance, both/all could spin the same way, but one/some could be slower/faster.

As I said, this is just a random thought; it looks great as it is. Now all you need is more content after the kicker. Razz

I wouldn't quite call it a fictional company, it's more creating a name for yourself. It's like me operating under the moniker Studio-Raygun but not registering it with the appropriate authorities. People learn your name, and in the future you can register that name and run a full-fledged company without loosing customers to a new name.

My wife gave me the okay a few months ago to register the name and logo, and I've been mulling it over, lol. I think it was $75 for the name and $300 for the logo, if I remember correctly. She lets me do these things, like this and getting the CS6/Autodesk software because she knows I'll never actually make the purchase, so her money is safe and she still gets "supportive wife" points, lol.

I had a whole list of divisions planned ([You must be registered and logged in to see this link.])

Animation division, industrial relations (for civil engineering projects like water treatment and traffic planning), research and training (a big company needs in-house training and an R&D department), it's going to be grand.

Speaking of a legit use for Studio Greenleaf--I'll be posting a GIMP tutorial within the next few weeks. It's a super-basic intro to GIMP, so everything in it y'all will already know--but I had a hard time finding a true "this is GIMP, this is what these windows and tabs are for" type video for a class I'm teaching. (I'm a teacher and a student! I don't sleep anymore. Shocked ) So I'll have an honest-to-goodness Studio Greenleaf: Research and Training Division video soon.

Bunny's Scraps Empty School Logo (GIMP)

Just a quick post... my wife needed a school logo created for her class project. The school's name is "Rock Creek High School" and the mascot is a bear. So this is what I came up with....

I didn't create the map or the bear, but I did merge them together and apply the shading and texturing. The bear drawing I used worked out well, since it had those contour lines that blended with the Virginia border and created other "creeks". The texture was to add some "rockiness" too it so we have both rocks and creeks represented.

Strangebloke: Yeah, it's like Freestyle, but sits outside of Blender and can do unique user-generated stroke patterns. I've been playing with Freestyle a bit lately, and I like them both.

My first works with this kind of thing was back in early/mid 2000's with [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.], which was awesome btw, but haven't had anything similar to it in Blender. So I'm super excited about both Freestyle and Jot.

XRay: Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner! I hope you were able to get everything up and running okay. Go through the user manual's tutorials--they'll get you up and running in no time! Smile

Hey, no problemo... BTW, I've had a string of successes lately with getting things to work! I'm really excited about this (Jot) and some of these other tools too. I just managed to get Lux 1.2 going last night. I've been fiddling with it with little or no success over the time that I've built my cave. I'm in the saddle now!

Bunny's Scraps Empty Final Going-Away Gift - Wood Engraving

Besides the plaster '1' from a few months ago, I've only shared one other going-away gift I've made with y'all--but over the course of four years I've made about 10 different gifts using seven different designs I came up with.  I can't share most of them, but I thought I'd share this last one I made.  This will actually be the final going-away gift I make for them, I've taken a new job and start on Monday--I'll no longer be with the 22d.

The original plan was to have everybody's handwritten signatures engraved in the plaque similar to some of my other designs, but I only had two days to build this so I had do go with text and just keep the Commander's handwriting.  The slice of wood is about an inch thick and the engraving left it with this really nice burned-wood smell.

I blurred out names and some other stuff so you can focus on the design instead. Aside from the unit logo which was remade in Blender a year or two ago, everything was done in GIMP and on a laser engraving bed.

This is the real thing... my wife and I have played around with the idea of opening our own engraving shop. With such a large amount of military in the area we would stand a very high chance of having a fair amount of foot traffic to keep the business worthwhile all while allowing me to do my designs and other creative works. I'd like to open up a theater, but the engraving shop is a much more realistic idea.

This is pretty cool! For some reason, I really like the noncircular shape and how the text bits flow to fill it.
I remember making a wood burning for my teacher in first grade. I used a soldering iron for lack of any more appropriate tools, and while I don't remember how it looked, I'm sure it was ghastly.
