Alright, I had a really disapointing exam today. I mean, it was not that the exam was hard, it was actually pretty easy, but for some reason I couldn't get my mind on it. I solved the problems in the right way, but I missed certain details here and there.

For example, there was an excercise where in the end I had to find the seventh member of a geometric progression. Now it's not like I don't know how to find/solve these - they are really easy for me. But for some reason I saw the number 7 as the number 1 and so I found the wrong member. I found it in the right way, I did all the calculations right, but it wasn't what it had to be - it was a different member.

And I did the same kind of a mistake on almost all of the excercises - it's not like my calculations or algorhytms were wrong, but my attention was somewhere else. The excercises were way too easy for me not to know how to solve them, but I made those mistakes without even realising them. I forgot to find things, I solved what they didn't ask me to solve and so on... Sad

Now, I have another exam in 5 days. It's going to be even earlier in the morning than this one was. I don't want what happened to me today to happen again. I want my awareness and attention to be as good as possible. Do you think some energy drinks and coffee would help? I've never drunk those but if they really do help... Of course, I'm gonna do my best to read the conditions of the problems more deeply, I'm gonna double check and all sorts of stuff, but still if energy drinks and coffee work, then I'm gonna try 'em. What do you say? Any other suggestions would be welcomed too...

If this were me, I would most certainly stay away from anything that I don't consume on a regular basis. I'd get up right at the test time every day until the actual test, then I'd get up plenty ahead of time, have a breakfast, workout a bit, shower and perhaps study a little as well.
While taking the test, reminds yourself why this test is important to you; why, perhaps, is serves an important role in your future plans.
Then shut everything out, and force yourself to focus completely on the test.

About drinks/etc, I'd personally stay away from energy drinks no matter what. For some real help (though it'd be too late for this test) try something natural like perhaps Ginko Biloba or Cod liver oil. Sugar destroys brain cells! Wink

I'd agree with that as well!... although I have indulged before. The problem with me is that they tend to amp me up, so I feel better, but it makes the "paying attention to details" even more difficult.

I'd say take good care of yourself in the nutrition and sleep departments and you should do well.

Well, I happened to listen to this advice, as it sounded the most logical. You can't believe how much the human body and mind can adapt to new routines in just 3-4 days. And I'm saying that in a good way.

The test was yesterday. From all the 3 tests that I've been to, this was the hardest one. The good thing about this university is that after each test they post the answers on their site, so you can make a rough estimation of what your grade will be the moment you come back home. So, guess what, no matter the fact that this test was the hardest, my estimation is that I'm still going to have a higher grade than on the previous, easier tests. Smile I really did my best on this one.

Btw, I still have 2 more tests, but they are in another university. Damn, I want my summer vacation to start already! Evil or Very Mad All I have to do is endure 4 more days of tests and studying, do my best... and I'll be free! Just 4 more days... why can't they pass already...

Good luck with those upcoming tests! Be sure to swing by the IRC to celebrate your summer vacation when you're done!

I sure will, thanks! Smile

And btw, I just passed one of the 2 tests in that spare university. I'm calling it "spare" because if I fail to get in the first university, I sure will go to the spare one. Thing is I have almost a perfect A score on that test from today and I'm wondering about the level of education in that university. I mean, it was way too easy. I had total of 90 questions on that test (50 math, 20 IT, and 20 Bulgarian Grammar and Language). I've got 1 mistake on the math part, 2 on the IT questions and 5 on BG (my grammar teacher will kill me while I sleep) for a total of 8 incorrect answers. And that test was supposed to take me 4 hours, while it actually took me a little bit over 1 hour. I'm wondering if their education system is better than their exams... I really hope I get accepted in the first univerity. If I was a religius person, I was going to pray or something, but I'm an atheist... so I'll just hope.
