how to influence or animate hair particles with armature or similar
Good evening,
I have a scene where my character grabs another characters hair and hangs on very similar to scenes from Ratatouille. I have tried to find a tutorial, but have had no luck. I am not exactly sure of the proper terminology for searching that.
Anyone know how to do that or of a tutorial.
I do not know if that is influence by an armature or some object. I suspect I will need a small hair particle system just in the area being influenced.
Please let me know.
Thanks,
Scooter

Hey Scooter,
I know of the scene from Ratatouille, but what I'm wondering is, what sort of effect do you need help with? The hair bunching when grabbed? Effect of it being pulled? Character clinging to the hair? All of the above? I know for the bunching effect, you could probably add a lattice and then add a lattice modifier to the hair that you are aiming to be grabbed. As for the hair actually being pulled or something clinging to it, I'm not entirely sure on those.

Good afternoon,
You are correct on all of the above. My scene will be very similar to Ratatouille. My human character is running away from something scary and I have another character similar in portions like Ratatouille that I want to be hanging on to the hair kind of flying along behind.
I will experiment with the lattice. I did not know that could be used for particles.
Thanks,
Scooter

Alright, that clears quite a bit up. Like I said, try out lattices (they do work with particles). For everything else you'll probably have to experiment with armatures, or you may want to take a look at utilizing the hook modifier.

Thanks a bunch for the information and tutorial. Fortunately I have done one hook modifier on a vine, so that helps with the learning curve.
We keep having thunder storms so that is slowing me down. I will set up an experiment particle system and try to figure it out. It may take a while, but I will let you know how it goes.
Thanks,
Scooter

Good afternoon,
I finally got time to work this out. I saw a tutorial a girl made where she uses curves to style her characters hair and you mentioned hook modifier which can animate a curve. I did some tests and I think these are going to do what I want.
Thanks a bunch.

Glad I'm still useful when I haven't really used Blender in a few years, haha.
