Decided to make a separate thread for quick projects instead of cluttering the whole subforum with them.

From a 'rainy scene' tutorial

Scene from a movie.

Hands are tricky things!

Sketched a skull but it looked bland so I made another one, low-poly + wireframe style.

Creature Top-Right started off as a sort of old western revolver but I didn't like how that looked.

What I'm NOT showing you, a disney princess face which looks more like some sort of deranged bulldog that ran into something face first, and many, many other unfinished landscape doodles which often look like heaps of ice cream instead of the rocky mountains.

Well, the point is that you're making progress! It's encouraging for me to see what others are doing and how they are coming along... I love it! Keep it up! I especially like the matte paintings. Cool

Thanks for the kind words!

Yeah, that's pretty much why I share this sort of work, even if it's a tad embarrassing.

Not particularly happy with this. The sky turned out half way decent, but the foreground is terrible.

From a photo;

Maybe a bit-o-blur for the foreground and sharpen up the tree?

I like the first two images in this lineup the best, with the waves/clouds in the other post my favorite of the bunch. You've got quite an artistic knack, in both digital and physical media (like the wire tree). I still anticipate seeing your name in a game or film credit some day.

Would you like me to move this thread over to the 'personal development' section, or would you prefer to keep it in the 2D section?

Wow thanks! I come from a long line of artists on my Mother's side and art has always been a big part of our lives. So any artistic feel I have probably developed from exposure to this sort of thing growing up. Now I'm just at a stage where I'm trying to get more comfortable in various mediums. Out of the things I've tried, photography is still probably one of my favorite, but finding really nice material to shoot can sometimes be trickier without traveling.
Speaking of physical crafting, I've been thinking about what to make for my Sister's upcoming birthday. She's a big Doctor Who fan so I've considered making something like in this following video, but I'm not sure I could pull that technical bit off.

No preference, either way is fine.

Was listening to my favorite artist, specifically this song;

(Another version of this song has an accompanying rapper rapping the lyric "Dream like I've never dreamed. Or at least tried to, because we've been lied to, that the sun is something we can't fly to.")

I remember seeing that on another blog; it definitely made an impression on me. It always amazes me that Watterson never ever sold out. I don't know if I could have done that.

Made for a thirty-minute spit-paint but I sort of deviated from the given topic of "underwater army."
Made with alchemy and Photoshop.

Interesting look and feel, RR. I like it--almost has that hand-crafted look to it that's different than your other works. The sharper angles and colors used flow well in these piece.

I've been slowing working on this scene. It's at two sittings so far, each about 45 minutes long.
I'd love some good C&C for this, but keep in mind is still pretty rough. Next session will focus on bring out contrast/details in the foreground.

[edit] the color calibration thing is rearing its head again.
[edit 2] I had someone put this on a nice tablet, and another nice screen, and it looked fine on both so I'll say it's not too dark on a decent monitor. My secondary can't quite keep up with my primary, and it's the culprit here. LED Viewsonic at 7200k color temp: for the record.
