Raspberry Pi?

Post  zyzzy on Tue Feb 18, 2014 10:59 pm

Has anyone ever done anything with a Raspberry Pi?

I just found out about these a few days ago...

what is it?

its a $30 - $40 dollar "computer"

what does it do?

its an (XMBC) media player

its an internet radio,

or a different internet radio,

its a retro gaming system

or another retro gamer,

a security system,

its a time lapse camera  (you really have to check this out)

even the cheap camera module does a pretty decent job (rainbow around 2:40)

its a coffee table

its a cat feeder???

its...uhm....well...one of these.

also its a Robot, super computer, earthquake detector, NAS server, weather station, digital picture frame, oh....and just a computer.

and actually lots of stuff besides that too.

Its kinda out of my comfort zone, but i definitely want to try to build some of this stuff..........or even all of this stuff....and i don't even have a cat.

a friend of mine built some sort of home server to distribute music around his flat using the PI...
maybe also some other functionalities.. would have to ask him...think it kinda provides some basic networking functions for him too...
i m going to ask him now or then what he actually does with his lil raspberry pi plywood box he made...certainly looks kinda funky ;D

As an alternative, there's this... http://www.adapteva.com/ I think these things have a solid concept, but for now they're just out of reach for what I'd like to put them to task. Maybe in a year or two they would be something to look at for rendering needs.

There was a pretty awesome case for it on Shapeways that was made in Blender. If I can find the BN post or the item itself on Shapeways I'll update it here. I remember it was really nice and professional looking.
