Gravity (Movie Review)
This movie was very very awesome. I went to see it in 3D IMAX,and the 3D was done well--very well--but seeing it in 2D won't cause you to miss too much except some nice visuals on the top and bottom of the screen that a standard-sized theater screen won't show. (For an example, watch The Dark Knight on Blu-Ray and you'll see it swap between letterbox and 16:9, and you'll see how much you loose on a non-IMAX screen.)
It shows that they spent four years working on the visuals--very very cool. If you liked Cast Away, you'll like this movie--this movie gets more the the point and there are very few "quiet" scenes like in Cast Away, but you get that same helpless feel.
There are awesome scenes like this throughout the entire movie. Very cool. 'Cept the IMAX has more goodness above and below.
Visuals: 5-blenderheads
Overall: 4 1/2-blenderheads (mild cursing, and low repeat viewing value--but that's expected for this kind of movie).
Better than: Star Trek Into Darkness, Oblivion (two snazzy and good Sci-Fi movies)
Not as good as: Star Trek (2009), Tron Legacy (two of my favoritist recent Sci-Fi movies)
Equal to: World War Z... which I am alone apparently in really enjoying that movie.

Thanks for the review! I've been wanting to go see this, but I'll have to go without the wifey... she gets sick too easily with 3D and Imax in general. Oh, well... time to go!!

Yeah, I did. Nothing special in my opinion (just like most of the modern movies). I mean, it kept me thrilled at some points, although not as thrilled as while watching the first Terminator movie, for example. Yeah, Gravity is not bad, but that's all.

I'm not much of a movie go-er. So no, I haven't seen it.

Yep. Went to see it at the Imax. Like Dobi, I was more inthralled with other movies as far as story lines go... that being said the visuals were impressive. I found myself flinching a time or two with the 3D.

Yeah, the CG stuff was top notch, but the biggest problem with the storyline was that it was way too predictable (like most of the movies).

Him... I guess because I went in with such low expectations that I really enjoyed it.
In other news, I'm looking forward to Saving Mr. Banks and The Life of Walter Smitty (I think that's the title). I can't stand movies like Across the Universe or Little Miss Sunshine, which Smitty looks like it might be along the lines of, but considering the imaginative value, low-key but well-done cgi, and the PG rating (which is important for me, since the wife and I don't watch R anymore), I think it'll be a neat movie experience.

I got caught up in coin fever. Actually, between all the changes that were requested, I've been spending most of the past few weekends working on the coin and only little sketches or render tests here or there to clear my mind. The movie is on schedule! I got the camera and lenses, next stop is to build a steadycam since I'll be doing this live action/3d mix. No point I recreating he house and everything in it when I can just add in cg characters into the real environment. I know it won't be easy, but I want to try something a bit different.

Hi
Just my observation on Gravity. I enjoyed it too. I agree it was fairly predictable but it did do one thing very differently from your average film. With never having any scenes on the ground in Houston it really ramped up the feeling of isolation when they are cut off.
I'm sure people will say it was just to keep the budget down but I thought that was very effective.
The Earth visuals were stunning, so much so I was admiring one of them and missed the arrival of the first few pieces of debris Oops.
