Your Photos

Post  BnBGobo99 on Tue Dec 17, 2013 5:20 pm

I figured we can create a thread where we could post our photos and get critique or just show off.

Here's some I took during snowfall a few days ago:

So you have snow, eh???! Lucky Americans... Here, in Bulgaria is still pretty hot for that time of the year. Tomorow's going to be like 5 degrees... no wonder we haven't seen much snow here.

Anyway, here's a photo I took 2 years ago, when my cheap 25 bux camera was still good for something (click to view in full res.):

Without Photoshop, it looked even worse, lol.

It's a Shelby GT500, while the black one is an aftermarket Challenger with over 600hp from what I know. The car which they are being reflected on is a '70 Cadillac DeVille with 22' inch chrome rims.

I moved a few months ago, and here's a shot of a nice hiking spot in the area.

Horsetooth Reservoir in Northern Colorado.
I have one or two other nice photos of the area if anyone's interested.

[edit] I didn't know mediafire was redirecting to Adfly. It's certainly nothing I set up, and I'm not making money off it or anything.

Dobi, you might like this one. I don't know if you're into JDM at all (Since I just hear you talk about American cars) but if you are, you might know what this car is. (Even has some winter on it)

Got two more fun photos. Introducing "Jonathan" -Albatross-'s yet unnamed Mazda 3, and My -Raygun-'s Civic SI affectionately known as Kati; Kati the Shady Lady.
We spent New Year's morning terrorizing some of the mountain roads west of Fort Collins. Tons of fun that was. Hope to get a few more people next time.

So, the firework's explosion altitude was above the cloud layer, so they gave a nifty glow, but no sparkles could be seen at all. They did do a really cool projection show that had the castle perfectly projection mapped for a neat animation!

[and yes, we still have our Christmas lights up on the stairwell, we found wrapping a string of lights along the handrail lights the stairs evenly and adds a soft glow throughout the house.  I can't explain the event calendar blocks though (the red and green squares off to the left)... I chalk that up to being lazy.]

You got some killer J.J. Abrams flairs going on from the fog/head lamps. Post-production or did the UV/Polarizer filters do that? Either way, nice scene (and car).

It's not that I don't like Asian cars. It's just that I preffer the RWD/AWD ones Smile

About the photos, aah, sounds like fun times. It's really weird how I get to notice them so late, though :/

And AAARGH! you Americans with your easy way of life teasing me with pics... 20 year olds driving new cars... With a paycheck much over the average Bulgarian paycheck, still after almost half an year of saving I won't be able to buy anything more decent than a 2003 Punto or a 2001 Focus Ghia. Still, here anything newer than 10-11 years counts for a new car, so I guess I shouldn't be ashamed...

Re: Your Photos

Post  Radialronnie on Wed Feb 19, 2014 2:05 pm

Mike, that's all post. I've never done any car photography before, and when I googled car shots, it seemed as though Abrams was a common theme for light effects. So I lined up for that effect like the photoshop sheep that I am.
Dobi, I'm not sure what to say about that. While I know it's true (I've spent time in eastern Europe/Eurasia), it's not a cake-walk here either. Your baseline job here will hardly pay living expenses for a couple, but I've been fortunate to have a much better job while being single. I live frugally in other respects, though I don't skimp on food. My peers spent each and every weekend "hanging out" with friends, doing winter sports which can cost immense amounts of money, and similar things. They also drive crap for the most part.
Me and my friends have all had full time jobs since we were 16 or so, between all of us, we have at least some college education (normally more expensive here than in the EU). When we get together-I kid you not- we talk business and investment opportunities and how to squeeze the most bang out of our buck. I think what I'm trying to say is this; it's your mindset and priorities.
The chap that recently made news with his "Flappy Bird" game? He lives in Vietnam, and if the projected amounts of income he's made off that game are true, he probably bumped up the country's GDP with that one app. Vietnam isn't the US by a long shot. I want to be sensitive too though because I know you're not wrong. Maybe I'll say this: hang in there, and for god's sake, don't be "ashamed". Maybe try moving here or to Canada if that's your thing.

Yeah, you obviously have what you have by pure hard work and I appreciate that. Never meant to say that "easy way of living" stuff in a disrespectful way. Anyway, I don't want to be spamming here, so I'll just continue in the Random thoughts thread.

I really like this photo because, it seems somehow very natural, yet intentionally composed at the same time. My first thought was that it was a render. After realizing it wasn't, my next thought was that it would make a great tutorial or review maybe for the forums. From concept to completion, Composing, Modeling, Unwrapping, Texturing, Lighting, Post processing, etc. In relation to your schooling, studio, & professional portfolio, it might be really neat if one day you could do a comparison about creating this scene in Blender vs whatever software your courses introduce you to. ( Probably Maya Very Happy) Nice photo.  Cool

A few more photos here (now higher res when you click  "enlarge" without having to go to MF)

Last week I called up a photographer buddy of mine and asked him if he wanted to do a quicky photoshoot. We went to a lake that's 10 minutes outside of town and while it's not the most photogenic location this time of year, it offers enough macro exercises if you look hard enough. Nate doesn't do a lot of macro so I showed him a few tricks*, and he let me use his crazy 10mm lens. Very Happy Trade n' Trade!
*One fun trick is to grab a longer lens and walk around peering at the ground and vegetation through the viewfinder. See what you can compose while forcing yourself to see in macro.

Very happy with this one, didn't even have to crop it off the camera.

I've never seen this before--you can "walk" right into the store behind the Google Street view spot you posted!

I bought a 35mm prime lens and I love it--I can't begin to imagine the fun with a 10mm lens.  The first image you posted is really neat--it strikes me as a "tilt-shift" Martian landscape from above.  The second and fourth images instantly reminded me of an NVArt 2008 image because of their composition and shallow depth of field: [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
