Just an observation Empty Just an observation

Post  Xraygunner Wed Jul 24, 2013 7:54 pm

I know we all have to come out of our shells eventually, but wow... I'm kinda shocked! I decided to go ahead and register over at Blender Artists and have a look around. Now, I've been off and on involved over at CGTalk and I know how it can get over there with some, pretty severe at times, attitude. I just didn't really expect to run into too much of that over at BA (bad attitude?), despite a heads up from one or two people here and there. I guess it's just the way people are in mixed groups and especially with the written word, but I guess I'm just spoiled here. Our little group seems to play nicely as far as I can tell... none of that elitist crap.

Anyway, just a little pat on the back for our bunch!

I think this is the nicest bunch of folks i've ever come across on the internet....(maybe in the "real world" too).

At the same time, at BA forums there are a bunch of folks that are much more "serious" about Blender than I am, (and much better at blender than I am.....oh....soooo.....much......BETTER!!!!), and I'm sure they get tired of hearing and seeing the same old questions and stuff over and over again.

I have an account there, though I've almost never posted, I do check it out fairly often.

Yeah, I learned that long ago. I usually just pop over to those sites to look at the pretty pictures the more serious users make. cyclops

As for BlenderNewbies/BlenderWorld I always felt like there was a nice little community of members.

Totally agree. I'd never dare post on the elitist sites. Just what you need isn't it? You've spent hours pouring your heat into your creation, you know it's not perfect but all you want is a bit of constructive criticism. You put it up there all nervous...

Then watch as it's torn to shreds before your eyes.

No thanks. I'll stick to places like this where you people appreciate the work put in but will point out the problems and make suggestions to help.

After all I've got no illusions I'll ever get a job at this, it's a hobby. It's meant to be fun Smile

Sometimes, when I'm really proud of my work, I'll post on BA. But to-date, none of my posts have ever received any replies (I think I got a "nice" once).

On the other hand, when my post about the Commander's Coin made it on BlenderNation, I got as many "I hate you" replies as "neat" replies.

CGTalk will slam your work if it's made with Blender, no matter how good it is. I've heard of the top stuff featured on BA from getting rejected on CGTalk because the Finished Works thread leader is an anti-Blender guy. I've met one of CGTalk's main leaders at a DC SIGGRAPH meeting, and he's a nice guy... He even showed a clip from a (now defunct) local studio that used Blender as their primary software.

Anyways, I went off topic. You guys are the best on the Internet. I had to stop visiting the BN chat room, but those lads are great too. I just wish some of the old timers would come here. Sad

That kinda makes me sad... It's definitely time for all that to change!
