Christmas project take 3... or 4... er another WIP
Hello! It's been a while; Good to be back. I've been terribly busy with school (mathematics) and haven't been blending. Just caught up on the news about Kernon... it's really too bad.
But the blending goes on. I am trying to do some volumetric/cloud gen mist. any hints and tips are appreciated as always.

Heey, good to have you back!
If it's fluffy, light stuff, I normally create a random messy/blobby mesh, then use render layers to isolate the object, and blur it heavily before masking it back into the scene appropriately (between the fore/background for instance).
This is perhaps the one main thing I've always wanted to be able to do in Blender, but I still don't know how best to do it.NRS wrote:But the blending goes on. I am trying to do some volumetric/cloud gen mist. any hints and tips are appreciated as always.

What do you know about cloud rendering? I used the cloudgen for this image, the mist is a cirrus cloud I believe.
and thanks for the welcome.

Hope this isn't considered hijacking a thread, but I had a thought. What if you could incorporate what's here [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] into what you're discussing. I know this is a different software package, but the method should still hold up to a degree. I'd love to hear some thoughts on it.
...And yes it's GREAT to see you back!!!

Hey xray!
I may take radial's (was it Dan?) method and composite it with a z pass like in that tutorial... time to cook up some noodles.
thanks for the ideas.
although, I may wait for finals to be done.
Looks like things have gotten quiet around here, how are ya'll?

Hey there!
Yeah, your best bet would probably do what Daniel posted. I've also been trying to work with fog at work, but I haven't gotten anything interesting (my attempts were camera tracking and then trying to add fog afterwards, most of the time I never got to the fog part).
As for how I'm doing, I'm just waiting for finals to be over too. Hopefully at the end of this week or next week I can dive into a new project.
